An Attractor-Repeller approach to floorplanning

چکیده
Abstract The floorplanning (or facility layout) problem consists in finding the optimal positions for a given set of modules of fixed area (but perhaps varying height and width) within a facility such that the distances between pairs of modules that have a positive connection cost are minimized. This is a hard combinatorial optimization problem; even the restricted version where the shapes of the modules are fixed and the optimization is taken over a fixed finite set of possible module locations is NP-hard. In this paper, we extend the concept of target distance introduced by Etawil and Vannelli and apply it to derive the AR (Attractor-Repeller) model which is designed to improve upon the NLT method of van Camp et al. This new model is designed to find a good initial point for the Stage-3 NLT solver and has the advantage that it can be solved very efficiently using a suitable optimization algorithm. Because the AR model is not a convex optimization problem, we also derive a convex version of the model and explore the generalized target distances that arise in this derivation. Computational results demonstrating the potential of our approach are presented.

Large-Scale Fixed-Outline Floorplanning Design Using Convex Optimization
A two-stage optimization methodology is proposed to solve the fixed-outline floorplanning problem that is a global optimization problem for wirelength minimization. In the first stage, an attractor-repeller convex optimization model provides the relative positions of the modules on the floorplan. The second stage places and sizes the modules using second-order cone optimization. With the relati...
متن کاملAttractor-repeller pair, Morse decomposition and Lyapunov function for random dynamical systems
In the stability theory of dynamical systems, Lyapunov functions play a fundamental role. In this paper, we study the attractor-repeller pair decomposition and Morse decomposition for compact metric space in the random setting. In contrast to [8], by introducing slightly stronger definitions of random attractor and repeller, we characterize attractor-repeller pair decompositions and Morse decom...

The aim of this study is to analyze the resonant attractor-repeller points during the atmospheric descent of a spacecraft with small asymmetry. The mathematical simulation of spacecraft rotational motion uses an approximate non-linear system of equations obtained by the method of integral manifolds. Application of the averaging method and the Lyapunov method makes it possible to obtain realizat...
متن کاملNonsingular Smale Flows in the 3-sphere with One Attractor and One Repeller: under Revision
The aim of this paper is to show that any two knots can be realized as an attractor and repeller pair for some nonsingular Smale flow on S with any linking number. We view this as progress, albeit limited, to the conjecture that all two component links can be realized as an attractor-repeller pair in a nonsingular Smale flow on S with just one other basic set of saddle type.
